Representation of Social Groups and Social Issues in Film Openings

 Gender:
In films men are usually shown as strong, brave and in control, while woman are usually shown in supporting and vulnerable characters like love interests and care givers. Woman, especially of color, have not been shown as much and are mostly stereotyped. However, in recent films women have been shown in stronger, and more independent characters.

Ethnicity and Cultural Identity:
Films often portray ethnic groups using stereotypes. For example, Black people are often shown as criminals, Latinos as gangsters and Asians as expats. Recently, films have started to show cultures more appropriatly.

Age:

Young people in movies are shown as rebellious, enerygetic, or naive, while older people are shown wise but sometimes irrelevant. Older characters can also ignored or pushed aside in many films. Lately, though, there's been more focus on the struggles and experiences of older adults.

Sexuality and Gender Identity:

LGBTQ+  characters used to be shown as side characters or in tragic roles, but now more films are telling their stories in a eal way. Still, LGBTQ+ characters are often stereotyped, like gay men are oten shown as overly dramatic.

Class and Socieoeconomic Status:

Films often show a clear divide between rich and poor. Poor people are shown as stuggling or unhappy, wjile rich people are always shown spoiled and happy. Characters with lower income are often showed as victims and weak.
